@CoedCadw I'm not sure about the VEE.
Dwi ddim yn siŵr am y VEE.
@AngharadHafod apologies if wrong.
@nspugh the VEE should be və (IPA), which I guess you might render as VU in imitated pronunciation.
@AngharadHafod @nspugh Or possibly VUH? (Rhag ofn i bobl ddarllen VU fel déjà vu neu'r sinema... In case people read VU like déjà vu or the cinema.) Neu V-UH?
@tortipede @nspugh that works I guess. I don't really like imitated pronunciation, I wish we'd all stick with the IPA. That's what it's for.
@AngharadHafod @nspugh It is, and I agree to a certain extent; but when the people you're respelling things for aren't familiar with it, it fails to achieve your goal. (Also, I interact with Mastodon almost exclusively on my phone, so IPA is hard! X-SAMPA could work, but then (a) I'd have to re-learn that, and (b) I'd find that no one else understood it...)
@tortipede @nspugh me too (mostly), but I have the Gboard IPA keyboard installed
@AngharadHafod @nspugh I use Microsoft SwiftKey which has multilingual spellcheck etc inc Welsh & Gaelic, but doesn't offer IPA. I'm not familiar with Gboard...?
@tortipede @nspugh Gboard is Google's keyboard. It too has multilingual support. I've got 13 languages + IPA keyboards installed. You can do two or three language input at once, but it's not very reliable (at least, not with Swype) - I guess because there's a much greater range of possible words for it to choose between when predicting the next.
I've got Welsh and North Sámi installed, amongst others, and it seems to have a huge number of possibilities.
@AngharadHafod Yeah, I've got it now; but given that I'm already sending Microsoft all my data, and possibly trust Google even less these days, I think I might reserve Gboard for the IPA. For that, it certainly looks good :)
@CoedCadw Even with the pronunciation I couldn’t pronounce it!
