Helen in Wales

I've actually had this account for a few years, but I didn't have an introductory post, so here it is.

I live in Cymru (Wales) and speak Cymraeg (Welsh) as a second language having learned as an adult.

I'm now retired so have more time to enjoy my interests which are photography, improving my Welsh and I've started writing fiction again. I also enjoy knitting, crochet, walking with my husband.

@Dewines nol! Glad to see you, click the hashtags you posted to find more people to follow 😃 👍

@jaz I've actually had this account for some years, but I started using it more recently. I must remember to use hashtags more. 🙂

@Dewines I think we have spoke before, croeso.

@robriley I think we have. I didn't realise that editing the pinned post would make it visible to people again.

@Dewines I live in Wales as well.

@Dewines But sadly I don't speak Welsh.
Well, yn typyn bach.

@Dewines I’m brand new to Mastodon as of yesterday, part of the #TwitterMigration . If Mastodon and the other alternatives are going to get going, people have to comment and post instead of waiting for good content, so here’s me doing that! I found your post with the #knitting, I’m working on Fair Isle ornament balls right now, and finishing up a Woolford sweater from BT. Cheers!

@carondolet I'm knitting a pair of socks for my husband. It's only my second attempt at socks, but I'm enjoying the challenge.

@Dewines @carondolet my daughter who loves to knit tried, and it was the bane of her existence for at least a year trying. God speed to you!

@PaulKnittle @Dewines Oh, I haven’t conquered the, completely either 😂 here’s my first few, below destined to be kitty toys. I started again after finding a class on Crafts (they had a deal where I could join for a year for 5$), which helped quite a bit. I learned to start with circular needles, move to double needles (nightmare in beginning), and hold the two yarns with both hands (I’m usually a thrower). Still on first one, but it is looking much better!

@carondolet Those knitted balls look great. I have a pattern for balls, but it's done on two needles and then you have to sew up a seam that runs from top to bottom.

@PaulKnittle @carondolet My first attempt at a sock was a failure. It would have fitted a hoof better than it would fit a human foot. 😆 I unravelled it and tried again with a similar (but slightly different) pattern that had an accompanying video on YouTube. The second attempt came out fine. As a beginner to knitting socks, I needed more help than the first pattern was providing.

@Dewines @PaulKnittle That’s why I always suggest scarves when I teach someone how to knit - no shaping! I haven’t really delved into making socks yet, although I have a book about it…thanks for the comment on my balls, the shape is pretty round (I stuffed them with shredded old socks), but the actual Fair Isle is pretty wonky. And it is Craftsy for the helpful class I found.
