At the Racing Drivers’ School Circuit at Brands Hatch they call 22-year-old Janet Rice: “The hairiest racing driver we have here.” “Hairy” in motor racing language means “dare-devilry” - and “hairiest of all” is the reputation Janet has won for herself in just eighteen months of racing at the circuit.
The experts agree that Janet is a natural racing driver and that she can drive superbly. Her advice to any girl who wants to follow in the wake of her exhaust smoke: “On the circuit, you have to forget that you are a woman. This could lead to you forgetting it off the circuit too, and that would be wrong. I try to accentuate my femininity off the circuit to make up for being part of the man’s world of motor racing.”
