The Gellidywyll Stone has travelled around a bit. It was allegedly carved in the parish of Maenclochog in 1743, moved to Gellidywyll mansion as a headstone for the squire’s horse in 1786 until being moved to its current resting place in Cenarth church yard in 1896. It’s inscribed ‘CVRCAGN - FILI ANDAGELI’. Meaning Curcagnus, son of Andagelli.

i thought it dated to the 5/6th century and was first recorded in 1743

these things tend to have late recording dates because there was never any need to do so until the antiquaries turned up and started writing things down. 😂
