Just had a phone call from somebody claiming to be "BT in Hertfordshire", claiming BT are going to be business only, and that we would need to change our broadband agreement.

I rang off.

send us letters about every tiny change in their terms and conditions. If this wasn't a trying to us into switching to a rip off service, I would have had such a letter.

Take care, everyone, scammers are at it again!

@Walrus its an Ofcom requirement to send these letters (I've had them from other providers).

Whilst BT consumer is rebranding to EE, a work colleague got a residential broadband circuit provisioned recently from BT and not only was it still copper, she got a BT branded router, so its not something they are doing immediately..

@vfrmedia

I didn't even agree that I was <my_name> or tell them who I already have broadband with...

Their apparent concern about my health, "how are you today, sir?" was an immediate alarm...

@Walrus also genuine UK based companies barely have enough staff to answer phone calls (even sales departments are very lean these days), let alone cold call people for new business..

@vfrmedia

Absolute clincher, right there!

@vfrmedia @Walrus my phone has a call memory list of 80, which I delete regularly when it gets full. Of the 80 between 60 and 70 are scam calls - every time.

@Walrus we had one at the door - hi I’m from (say it too fast to be recognisable). Your neighbours are complaining to us about their broadband speeds, can I just check your speed, do you have your mobile phone to hand. At best, spying operation on their competitors because once you got a moment to think logically if neighbours were really complaining to them, they’d be the last ISP to choose. At worst, they were next hoping to try and get goodness knows what spyware app on your phone.

@Walrus I had a "about your housing repair", I replied "your an effing scammer, eff off' and disconnected.

@johnflomax

I've always enjoyed reading the accounts by people who keep scammers online for as long as they can, wasting the scammer's time for fun.

@Walrus What's worse is that BT are trying to shove everybody onto EE so folks have some awareness of that which makes it seem that much more legit.
