Microsoft Office 365 banned from German schools over privacy concerns
In a bombshell decision, a German Data Protection Authority has ruled that the use of Microsoft’s cloud office product “Office 365” in schools is to be banned - the platform's standard settings expose school pupils' and teachers' personal information to potential US mass surveillance, and are incompatible with European and local data protection laws.
@gomez - what are they using instead. I switch between office 365 and libre office. I use Windows 10 on a laptop and linux mint with a couple of cheap machines (an old desktop and an HP stream, cos it is small and light but a tiny flash drive)
@paulpritchard @afallen @email@example.com I think it depends on what software you use regularly. There are times when I just need an alternative to expensive commercial software eg. Photoshop. There are times when I'm unhappy to be using software where I have concerns over privacy or the ethics of the controlling organisation. Then I can use @firstname.lastname@example.org to look for an alternative.
@afallen only just finding time to have a good catch up on stuff from the week. If there's anything I can do to help the cause give me a shout!
