1. #Twitter is broken.
2. #Mastodon will only be a success if it can replicate the Twitter experience.

I can see where the idea that Mastodon should be like Twitter comes from, there's a shared point of origin for the concept. But it's a more interesting place if it develops along its own route. A need to accurately replicate would rule out fixing problems that Twitter ran into.
