My .

I did my PhD on the astronomy of Greek Temples and worked in various minor jobs in the Faculty of Science at Leicester. I stopped looking for an academic job for various reasons, the most cheerful of which was due to medical complications post-cancer.

At the same time, I was asked by the Annals of Botany to work on improving their social media and outreach. This has developed into producing a site to promote botanical research from any journals at Botany One.

I used to live on the Anglo-Welsh border at Knighton / Trefyclo, but moved to near Oxford as my wife works in life sciences, and work in that field in Wales is limited.

The garden is pretty much sterilised by all the cats in the neighbourhood - except for wild hedgehogs that wander through. We feed them, and take them to hospital when they need help.

We've also adopted one of the cats who was in need of help. Interests include astronomy, gardening & history of science 2/2

@alun We feed the hedgehogs too....they are lovely thiongs, aren't they. We recently took a poorly one to a hedgehog hospital, but it wasn't a good ending, sadly. They seem to have disappeared the last 3 weeks here, so presumably they are asleep for the winter. We are overrun by filthy, b*****d cats....I detest the things...trying to kill the lovely birds we feed!!!
We also see a fox paying us a visit too, once or twice a week...we catch him on the wildlife cam!!!
Lovely to see the wildlife!

@TheBeastOfBaglan @alun

Am an animal lover but really don't agree with cats being allowed free roaming. They are killers and do serious damage to wildlife.

@JuliaBarrell @alun Agree 100%.....they are killers. Anyone with a cat should keep them on their property, simple!

@JuliaBarrell @TheBeastOfBaglan @alun yes, my cats haven't been allowed outside for a couple of years now, and they don't really miss it. They are safer indoors - and so is the local wildlife!

@Llywela @TheBeastOfBaglan @alun

Great to hear - well done.

Now we just need loads more people to follow your example.

@alun that's a very strange coincidence as I literally just posted and image of the Pleiades in a forum, quoting the Greek mythology
