Farmers of Mastodon, where art thou? Show me your ploughs, tractors, crooks, plants, animals, landscapes - everything!
@cadachllestri well, I’m a smallholder, not a farmer but I’ll try to add #Farming if I’m interesting enough #sheep #goats
@rosemaryhannah marvellous! I'm interested in all types of farming, whatever their scale!
@cadachllestri we’ve only about ten acres, so our scale is small. But we’ve a serious interest.
@rosemaryhannah we're farming 570 acres of mountain land, but it's quality not quantity!
@cadachllestri we have incredible wet upland. Nearby fields wholly swallowed by rushes (was once dairy farming). Currently I can’t get a tractor into my big field, causing a huge set of problems until I can get the entrance rebuilt in dry weather.
@rosemaryhannah gah, I sympathise with that. We're incredibly wet in the winter here too.
I'm currently looking at whether I can get a micro scale pig enterprise underway up here in the summer to clear bracken infestation in areas where mechanical cutting isn't feasible.
I haven't found the experts I need to evaluate my idea yet, though. It takes a lot of thinking and planning!
@cadachllestri I’ve actually done that in ‘a previous existence’. You need good housing, to train the pigs to electric fencing and weaners big enough (perhaps 12 weeks)to cope with patches of the lovely British summer (we’ve had the entire British Isles rain on my patch this year.)
@8bitpal Hiya!
Great to meet new farming people on here!
