@dansantillo Thought I recognised the area, I spent my youth on holiday in the Gower, now I'm in my 40's and 6yrs ago moved to the Rhondda, now I'm a permanent fixture with a Valleys Girl and 2 children, awesome photo, what settings did you use?
@mw0dcm Thank you :) This was 20s, f4 at ISO6400
@dansantillo Nice, I only use a Smartphone for my #photography while I'm out and about in and Rhondda and surrounding area. Here are some of my photos, not the best, but I tend to use manual settings so I can control the light etc.
@mw0dcm I often use my phone too - so much lighter than my DSLR :)
@dansantillo Being an Englishman that moved here to RCT, I'm still in awe with the landscape etc, and being registered blind, the sight I've got I just enjoy taking the landscape and some of the buildings on my travels
@mw0dcm I'm technically English too (well, Cornish) which means I sort of see the Welsh landscape with fresh eyes. Just say your bio - I'm GW7WKN, but I haven't used a radio for many, many years.
@dansantillo I'm the same, I inherited all my Dad's gear from the Midlands after he passed away last year, so I have the FT-817ND, FT-857D, FT-7 and a few more I've got to get up and running again, but here in the Valleys, VHF below 600 feet is rubbish, so I'm looking at something for HF. I just enjoy all aspects of the 2... no 3 hobbies, as I also use #Linux for editing photo's etc.
@mw0dcm I spent 7 years as a software engineer coding in C and C++ for telecomms test equipment and mobile phones - never really touched Linux though. I sort of grew up with Windows from v1 of it when I was about 11 years old.
@dansantillo I moved away from Windows back in 2009, but I did my C/C++ and Visual Basic qualifications on Windows. Linux is fun and getting easier to install and use now to
@mw0dcm I left it almost 18 years ago and became a photographer instead. I still get to ‘play’ in PHP, etc as I wrote my one website from scratch.
@dansantillo Nice job! I still dabble with radio, I'm going to set up a Funcube Pro+ SDR Dongle with a VHF Weather Satellite antenna so I can show my 6 yr old son what can be done with radio. I also have 2 other cheap SDR's to play about with too, more projects along the way!!
@mw0dcm That all sounds good :)
@dansantillo Ah, does that mean I'm older then? I cut my teeth on the Sinclair ZX81 back in 1981, I was 6, makes me feel old now as that was 42yrs ago I did C/C++ and then Visual Basic, but sadly as my sight deteriorated, I stopped messing, but now I'm thinking of learning something new, especially with the Eclipse IDE in the #Linux Software Center, especially now both my kids are at school too!!
@mw0dcm I started with BASIC on the BBC Micro when I was 9, then taught myself Pascal on the 186 RM Nimbus the school had and progressed onto C when I was 15. Then at Uni I was doing C and C++ for embedded systems. Now I just play with PHP for my website.
@dansantillo Ah I remember the RM Nimbus and myself and my best mate were challenged to hack into the network, found the backdoor within 10 mins to
