Dan Santillo Photography

Last night, a dream came true - I saw and captured the Aurora Borealis (aka Northern Lights) over Rhossili Bay. I've had this location in mind for years if the conditions were right. And last night it happened!

@dansantillo
I wouldn't have thought you could see them at such low latitudes
@_xhr_

@jaj @_xhr_ It was so strong last night, it was seen in Cornwall!!

@dansantillo The colour isn't changed? And with this colours it was "seen" only with a camera, not with human eyes?

@Hiker With the naked eye, it was a faint white cloud and the pillars were visible too. The camera is far more sensitive and can pick up the colours. In places like Iceland, they are green with the naked eye.

@dansantillo Okay, that's clear now. I only asked because I recently took a lot of photos in Lapland and have a little hibackground knowledge. And yes, the eye sees almost only the green color.

@dansantillo Gorgeous! Well done, it's an amazing photograph. ❤️

@dansantillo Wow it’s purple! Northern lights that happen near me (Alberta Canada) tend to be green. That’s so interesting! Great picture!

@dansantillo God, I'd love to have seen that. As expected Clouds, wrong location, wrong time, wrong direction, previous engagements and the old time favourite "simply didn't show up". In other words, a painters fury at nature. 🙂😁

@dansantillo
I'm really thrilled for you Dan.
What a spectacular sight. How long did it stay?

@dansantillo And now I want to capture it over Claerwen dam, although that'd probably have to be a drone shot to get the dam with lake behind.
