Coffee shops were common in bigger British cities in the 1670s, and according to Pepys, they shouted out your name when your drink was ready. People sometimes gave hilarious fake names for a laugh. Very little truly changes ☕️

White mug featuring a simple painting of Charles II with the year 1674. It’s a caudle cup. Caudle was a hot, often alcoholic drink a bit like eggnog. You could easily use this for tea or coffee. This recently sold at Sotheby’s for about £70K
