The biggest story on the BBC News website is that #cyclists who kill could face a life sentence: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0w8g18x9no
Ok, fine, but from the same website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-39516607
"The Old Bailey heard Michael Mason was knocked off his bike ...on Regent Street in February 2014.
Mr Mason, 70, never regained consciousness and died days later.
The case was brought by the Cyclists' Defence Fund after the police decided not to pass the file to the Crown Prosecution Service."
Performative bull.
People on bicycles may kill around three people a year. Motorists kill so many it barely makes the news.
@gavin57 even then - the deterrent to dangerous cycling is not ' I do not want to go to jail ' but will always be " I do not want to ride dangerously as I am at risk"
It's very different to having a metal box around you
You ride into someone - there is every chance you will come off worse .
It's f**ing stupid
Another labour attempt labour are making at attracting the right wing - who will not vote for them anyway
@BertyTrouser Precisely. Coming off your bike bloody hurts, we don’t try to do it. Someone in a 2-tonne SUV is barely going to notice.
@gavin57 there are probably far more regular motorists than cyclists and because of distances travelled far more occasions for accidents for motor vehicles.
@John_Loader I suspect there are far more regular motorists than cyclists because people fear the car's apparently unquenchable bloodlust.
That and the motoring industrial complex has conditioned people to think the car is the only option. So, people drive one mile to the shop to pick up a pint of milk and some spuds.
The average car journey in the UK is 8.1 miles, easily bikeable in about half an hour. https://www.nimblefins.co.uk/best-car-insurance/average-car-journey-uk
