Ok I don't know a better place than #Defaidodon to ask this .. Getting close to shearing time we'll have sacks of wool this time I plan to wash the wool, dry it and use it to fill some pillows. But I am having difficulties in finding a #wool #detergent for hand wash that is : 1. Unscented 2. NOT irritant for the eyes .. maybe pure Marsilia Soap or what ? I plan to wash some wool by hand in the bathtub, put it into a drier sack, dry it and use it to fill some pillows. Any suggestions appreciated!
@gilesgoat Soak is what I use for my hand spun yarn after I spin it. It comes in an unscented version and works well on wool once spun, so I’d think it would work on fresh sheared?
@Meadhbh Hi, can I find it on Amazon ? I am not familiar with "Soak" don't know where I could find it
@gilesgoat I have gotten it there before, yes. It began life as a detergent sold to crafters for washing handknits but has expanded to selling for general handwashing and people with sensitive skin. So a lot of crafts suppliers sell it too. Attaching a photo of what the bottles look like.
@gilesgoat I don’t want to be the wool version of ‘write your own Linux kernel’, but you could make your own soap, and have complete control (eventually) over the end product.
Probably too much faffing about, I’m sure.
@gilesgoat When I'm back home, I can check to see if I brought some wool wash stuff with me when I moved. I can't remember what it was right now, but I think it might be suitable.
My partner uses several different products for things she knits, the big one being "Eucalan no-rinse woolwash". I don't think it has any scent added, but it does contain eucalyptus oil and so has that (fairly light) scent. I've never found things washed in it to irritate my skin or eyes.
@gilesgoat someone with actual experience with sheared wool might have better suggestions, but when our kids where small, we used woolen diapers, and they came with some kind of soap. Maybe that's a lead on what kind of detergent works?
