US retailers really need to start understanding that it's a global society. My technophobic 90 year old mother in law is in lockdown on NYC with her dog. I'm trying to order stuff on line for delivery to her. Chewy, the pet store, geo block anyone outside the USA from looking at their site because they don't *deliver* outside US. Instacart, won't accept a credit card from a non US address. Neither understand that although I'm in UK I want delivery in US & they aren't the only culprits.
Ok #Linux folk. I have a #bash script that needs to know if it was run with sudo and exit if it wasn't. Google returns loads of ways to do this and loads more people arguing over which way is the 'right' way.
Please help me to fry my brain by telling me how you'd do it and why.
If it makes a difference #Ubuntu 16.04.
To make a realistic prediction though, we need to look back 18 days (average time from infection to death) from today's date and see how people's behaviour was changing. With more social distancing happening, the hope is this will not be such a steep curve; indeed, hopefully it will become a straight line soon, then turn towards the horizontal. But we're not likely to see the latter happening until Easter I fear.
The prediction, based on the average increase of the past three days (22.4%) shows Wales passing 250 deaths in around a week's time.
If you want to #follow people that writes about specific topic, I suggest that you check out Trunk - a service where people can write them selves up on different lists in order to easier find a #community that has the same interests as me.
For example, I want to find more people that writes about #atheism , I can just choose the tag "Atheists" and just follow everyone under that specific category with just a few clicks.
Check it out:
Turns out governments can just write a big blank check and make money appear out of thin air.
Turns out most of the shit we were getting paid fuck all to do was pointless busy work all along.
Turns out the people doing the most important work are the ones getting paid the least.
Turns out they can house the homeless overnight if they have enough motivation.
Turns out they can just cancel evictions and rent hikes.
Its very interesting to see what is considered a "crisis" and what is not.
After yesterday's #Covid19UK figures, today's don't look quite as good. However, the reason for the lower figure yesterday was explained in a Tweet by https://twitter.com/KateEMcCann, and with that knowledge these figures still are not bad. We are well below the Italy line, and the last 9 days form more of a straight line than an exponential. That's a VERY GOOD THING, as it means it's not growing out of control.
Ok... Sharing something from the bird site.... It's kinda cool.

So one of our local takeaways is offering free takeaways to NHS workers as thank you's. The comments so far -
What about teachers?
What about care workers?
What about other essential workers?
You shouldn't be open to give free meals.
So much for #BeKind
Well I've closed the office, cancelled any training that wasn't already cancelled and sent my colleagues home.
Fingers crossed the government will really come up with this 80% wage subsidy so we can keep paying them. Toes crossed that they'll work out some subsidy for the self-employed, so I can pay myself something too, as I'm entitled to nothing at the moment.
