Welsh word of the day
Today's word:
Cawrfil
Meaning "elephant" or "huge animal"
Thanks to Ken Owens and Iaith ar Daith for that one. I agree with the Sheriff, "Cawrfil" is a more interesting word than "Eliffant". Although I do like "Oliffant", which is a great word anyway but even more so because it reminds me of Samwise Gamgee, who really wanted to see an Oliphaunt.
@AngharadHafod it could
@AngharadHafod @iuanto
Dw i wedi gweld pobl yma yn siarad yng Ngwyddeleg yr Alban am 'Mastodaoine' (pobl ar Mastodon, Mastodynion) ond efallai byddai Cawrfilwyr yn well yn y Gymraeg...
I've seen Scots Gaelic users refer to people on here as Mastodaoine (≈ Mastodynion), but perhaps the Welsh should be Cawrfilwyr?
@tortipede @AngharadHafod dwi'n hoffi Cawrfilwyr, mae'n gair iawn. Efallai, hashnod newydd?
I like Cawrfilwyr, it's a good word. A new hashtag, perhaps?
@iuanto @tortipede felly bydd neb yn anghofio'r gair #Cawrfil!
Then no one will forget the word #Mastodon!
