@jaz Would be great if this happened across the fediverse.

@jaz I am so lucky that on our server It's just a dozen manual retweets/retoots per day.

@jaz Hi! I’ve been giving this some thought for NW Storm News lately on how to make sure information I share on that was sourced from looks organic to Mastodon while also being properly attributed. I too don’t enjoy seeing my personal timeline littered with “RT @ x” followed by a tweet and a link. I’m sure I’m not the first to say this, but if I wanted to read a bunch of tweets, I’d go to Twitter! 🧵1/3

@jaz @Storms So with above said, approach I’m currently trying is:

1.Anything shared from Twitter to Mastodon is curated by hand.(No bot)
2.Toots are prefaced with name of the source + hashtag where it makes sense. Eg. # NorthWalesPolice
3.The content copied is mostly word for word from the tweet, but is manually reviewed to ensure relevant Mastodon users are tagged, hashtags are included & images have alt text etc.

Was wondering what people thought of this approach? 100% open to feedback!🧵2/3

@jaz Examples attached! 🧵3/3

@Storms well, while I wait with fevered anticip

ation for your 3/3, I can honestly say we have zero issues with your account or its content.

Whatever you're doing, you're an example to follow 👍

Please keep doing what you're doing😃

(although it sounds like it might be easier for you to post here first and have something like moa.party send it to your twitter account?)

@jaz ❤️ Thank you!! I do try 😅 Regarding your suggestion about posting here first. I think that is a point I’d like to get to, but at the moment it’s easier to retweet when on Twitter and then manually decide what info to share with Facebook and Mastodon. I’m hoping one day there will be a tipping point where most info I find comes from here and I share in the other direction.

@Storms Understood, and let us know if we can be of help with anything.

@jaz Very well put, might follow your approach.

@jaz
I'm not on your instance, but I do like the sound of this approach. It does sound like a lot of work for you guys though. Maybe not so easy for larger instances? @wild1145 - what do you think?

@ClaireCopperman @jaz I saw the original toot as well. It's something I'm seriously considering. We haven't had a huge number of issues but we might need to look at clarifying our position and limiting visibility of accounts which are primarily being used to just post twitter content here.

@wild1145
That would be great. I'll be interested to see what you decide.

By the way, I'm so enjoying the upgrade. And Happy New Year!

@jaz Out of interest, what's your stance on Indieweb POSSE when the E is Tŵt?

@woe2you We have federated content from over 38,000 servers using ActivityPub, including self-hosted blogs and one-person AP servers. We are clearly pretty open to syndicating people's content 😃

Self hosting and self publishing isn't for everyone, but we are highly in favour of supporting those who do.

The policies around what content we do and don't federate (or syndicate) are here: blogs.toot.wales/toot/automate

And if you'd prefer to read that blog content on toot.wales directly, follow
