a stinky ox 🐂

Scrolling through a page on my phone and as I am away from my PC I noticed loads of ads. And I noticed a new little bit of country - below each ad there is a block of white space, and as you scroll each ad PAUSES at the top of the screen and you have to keep scrolling to make the successive text scroll up through the white space and eventually push the ad away.

What absolute cunt thought that little bit of shittiness up? Someone fucking coded that. I hope they never have a good vindaloo again.

Also on that same page: video window I did not ask for opened itself and stuck itself to the top of the screen forcing me to close it; banner appeared unbidden at the bottom and although I closed it the same one reopened several times as I scrolled down.

JUST REMEMBER I CLOSED IT FOR FUCKS SAKE.

@llamasoft_ox Speaking of unwanted ADS, I know that "Amazon Video" is PAID for it's NOT free .. well it seems now "almost 90% of stuff" HAS ADS IN IT !! Part of the "trick" seems to be that now "a lot of stuff" doesn't come from "Amazon" but from "Freevee" ( or the heck is called ) that "is free WITH ADS" .. Skype is blasting with ads, everything is blasting with ads ! Remember Mailchimp ? Now there's an ad that claims they added AI in for TARGETED ADS so YOU BUY MORE !! I don't buy MORE CONT.

@llamasoft_ox CONT. for A VERY SIMPLE REASON and that's why "ads don't work on me" .. BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE MUCH MONEY TO SPEND !! 😅 😡 Isn't it amazing what you can NOT buy when you don't have money ? 😂 People should learn this very simple lesson "don't buy" and then "ads will be totally useless" and they'll stop !

@gilesgoat I remember thinking the same when Sky TV launched in the 1990s. "I pay money for it, _and_ you show me ads? What?!"

@llamasoft_ox I can recommend the brave browser app. Blocks ads and tracking effectively.

@llamasoft_ox if your browser allows you to change dns provider then you could change it to adguard

dns.adguard-dns.com/dns-query

It cuts out a good deal of the crud, page load times increase and memory/battery usage decreases

@llamasoft_ox I have PiHole for the home network. And ublock on all browsers (Firefox) on all machines. When I leave the safety of my home network I sometimes forget that Chrome on Android will be the default system browser for opening links. Even though I've told it to use FF! Bloody annoying to get adverts on YT and other general browsing. Every YT link - no matter how unpopular has a bloody advert at the start. Sometimes I long for the days if dial up Demon Internet and Mozilla 1.0.
