Surely even the most hard-boiled egg haters must have a soft spot for Chuckie Egg, one of the best 8-bit platformers on most systems.
TIL "Chuckie Egg" actually has another meaning, and is the name of an egg consumption mode where you have smashed up egg in a cup along with lashings of butter and bits of toast! Lovely!
@llamasoft_ox egg in a cup, classic Scottish breakfast :) Lots of butter and pepper of course.
@bobthomson70 @llamasoft_ox never heard it called Chuckie Egg though!
@strathearnrose @llamasoft_ox aye was always just ‘egg in a cup’ in my house and partner’s too.
@llamasoft_ox I used to love a "chopped up egg inna cup" when I was a kid
Also Chuckie Egg is definitely one of the finest platformers ever.
@llamasoft_ox My Nan used to call them Chuckie Eggs. Me and my sister always lol'd at it :)
(Or, whatever it used to be called before it was lol'ing...?)
@llamasoft_ox I have the jumping sound in my head!
Boooowooooooooooo
And the death sound. Ba Baba Baba Baba Babaaaaa ba
Chucky egg was soft-boiled with soldiers when I was a kid, now I'm not sure if that was a regionalism or a mistake!
@DuvetGecko Probably a regionalism, some people seem to have heard of the name and not others (it wasn't a thing where I grew up) so perhaps unsurprising the presentation varied even where the name did occur. Egg in a cup seems the most common one though.
I was wondering if it had come from "cuppy egg" or similar. I've moved from NE to SW england via Yorkshire, so I have picked up a bunch of random regionalisms over the years
@llamasoft_ox An all-time classic, and almost caused my friends mum and dad to get divorced because his dad used to sit up all night playing it. There was "an intervention" before it got there.
@llamasoft_ox Clearly, the eggs are the enemy and must be destroyed
@llamasoft_ox somehow I have managed to never play Chuckie Egg despite being aware of it from the very start of its existence, when friends were playing it on a BBC at school.
Might have to get a copy up on my Next!
@llamasoft_ox When I was 14 I would come home from school and my mum was nowhere to be seen. Everyday I would find her in my room playing Chuckie Egg on my Beeb. She was bloody brilliant at it - put me to shame. Damn, that's 42 years ago. She also loved Frak! and played a mean Planetoid.
She's 84 now and still loves to play games on her Anbernic - I've seen her play Gridrunner a few times too. .
T-Minus 4 days until I arrive in Wales to see my folks again!
@llamasoft_ox Chuckie Egg is comfort gaming just like Tetris for me. I hope you’ve tried the recent-ish remake release for the expanded Vic20 too, it’s a smashing version.
@llamasoft_ox one of the finest games ever made
