I wrote an article for the #WalesCentreForPublicPolicy about infrastructure and well-being https://clubb.cymru/2022/05/30/may-22-infrastructure-and-well-being-in-wales/
I should really be finishing the book about our excavations there but sometimes it’s good to have a break!
Wow! Here is a really exciting #opportunity to lead the development of a new #museum in #Shrewsbury dedicated to #CharlesDarwin. The museum will be at Darwin's birthplace, which is currently being restored.
@huhche9 Nice to meet you too! There aren’t many archaeologists here yet, but hopefully we will see more as we learn to ‘excavate’ in this medium. Good luck with your MA. Where and what are you studying?
@ArchaeoBasti Enjoy it... it is a rare opportunity to explain the details of your work to a captive audience. You are the world expert on your dissertation! Remember also what you chose not to include, and why. Good luck!
Cultural heritage workers and institutions are being specifically targeted by Russian troops, Ukrainian museum professionals have said: https://www.museumsassociation.org/museums-journal/news/2022/04/russian-troops-targeting-cultural-workers-and-looting-collections/ #archaeology #culture #art #heritage #museums #ukraine

This is a penny of King Æthelberht II of East Anglia (r. AD 779-794), This coin dates from the time when there were multiple kingdoms in England (and indeed Wales). There was frequent competition between them, even warfare. At this time, Offa of Mercia was overlord of much of England south of the River Humber, so an underking issuing coins styling himself 'Rex' (King) was an unforgivable show of insubordination, so Offa ordered him killed.
@whysofurious Thanks for your welcome! The charity model is used in the UK for a variety of ‘services’ which in other parts of Europe might be delivered by the state, or in the US might be done by private enterprise. So it’s a not-for-profit organisational model that sits between the two. My organisation is the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust (www.cpat.org.uk) and we deliver services in Wales for Welsh Government, local government and private-sector developers. Hope that helps!
A bit more by way of #introduction.
My #archaeology career has taken me along some interesting paths - focussing #historical #medieval and #urban archaeology. Interested in archaeological #practice and #ethics. Currently CEO of an archaeological charity in #Wales.
