Last week I saw my firs Prickly Sow-thistle of the year, this week its cousin the Smooth Sow-thistle is flowering in my front yard. Fantastic plants, I think.

A fairly tall plant with lots of leaves which are spiky in shape but have few actual spines. The flowers are bright yellow and dandelion-shaped. Behind the plant, out of focus, is the wall of a house.
