and I rolled the dice and set out 26 tomato plants. We have Jet Star, Brandywine, and Supersweet 100. Started from seed and potted on a few weeks ago. They have formed a good root system and were planted DEEP. They then got a shot of 0-4-4 liquid seaweed and got a bit of shredded leaf mould as mulch. Now we keep our fingers crossed and the fleece ready if it gets too cold! BTW did you know that all gardening bears are left-handed?

@richrollgardener my mum, born to a market gardening family, told me only recently a little trick that the growers used to use with tomatoes. If you leave them in the small pots a bit longer, they get stressed, and that encourages them to start to form their first truss ("fruit now as you might not have long"). Then plant them out, and you'll get an earlier first picking.

Mine look about the same size as yours, but I've not planted it yet. That's as much due to time though as trying this.

@AngharadHafod I've heard that, too. My timing is more about making space in the greenhouse for planting the corn, cukes and squash. We always manage 4th of July tomatoes no matter what I do, anyway! Thanks!
