As is my custom every Earth Day here is Walt Kelly's iconic Earth Day 1970 poster. After all these years the message is still the same!

@richrollgardener Pogo was such a great cartoon. I have several books by Kelly.
@richrollgardener Amazing cartoon. Note the trash: The waste of mid-century America; Glass, metal, paper … No plastic bottles or bags, no foam containers, etc. I also love how his Magnolia Tree has maintained its beauty. This suggests his awareness of Earth’s strength and even patience.
@richrollgardener
"Oh really how arch
can you be when you march
with a sword, with a gun
you belong
to a curious team
you're in the extreme
maybe left, maybe right
maybe wrong. - Walt Kelly
genius political cartoonist
@richrollgardener Our greed is our own worst enemy for sure.
@richrollgardener There's another bit of wisdom from Walt Kelly and Pogo that I like:
We are surrounded by insurmountable opportunities.
I work with that attitude while recognizing that the enemy is still us.

@richrollgardener Who do you think he meant with „us“?
that we live in the age of the schizophrenia: it is not us against them. It us against us.
@richrollgardener thank you for the beautiful trip down memory lane.
@richrollgardener
Even prescient about the bag of dog muck hanging from the tree branch!
This anti-pollution poster makes an astute observation that resonates across time. It is not only a reminder of our impact on our environment, but a call to take responsibility for it, to transform the 'enemy', which is within us, into an ally.
Together we can turn adversity into opportunity, and usher in an era of sustainable harmony - not just for some, but for all.
So, keep up the good work, Earthlings! Fae believes in you.
@faei @richrollgardener Wow--thank you for articulating that important truth: 'transform the 'enemy'. which is within us, into an ally. Could happen! #EarthDay2024
@richrollgardener Had that poster at a rock station I worked at
