• All it will do is see the #USA as #unpredictable, #unstable and less #trustworthy than the "P.R." #China or even #Russia under #Putin.

#Trump literally lashing out against friends and neighbours will only backfire hard, and I expect @EUCommission and @europarl_en to enact #PrizeFreezes for #US #products & #services whilst forcing #Retaliatory #Tariffs on all US #products and espechally #services, demanding 100%+ in all #fees, and #revenue of #GAFAMs' services and products to the point that they'll effectively cancel half their revenue that flows back.

• Plus forcing all products and services to be processed and sold via a #EU-based #corporation and adding a 30% "#AlienTax" as the #USA already does for i.e. #App #developers that ain't from the US even if they never sold a single license to a US customer.

Not to mention cancelling any #DataProtection agreements that only stalled the foreseeable court decision that #CloudAct is incompatible with #GDPR, thus banning #Office365 / #Microsoft365, #iCloud et. al. from the EU!

• And yes, this level of #retaliation is not only just, but #overdue, as we need @european_alternatives / #EuropeanAlternatives to #VISA, #AMEX, #MasterCard, #PayPal, #Steam, etc.

Given #Trump can't be assed to even fake any #loyality or #allied status even for the cameras, this is a #ForeseeableConsequence.

• As only with #Accountability and #Consequences will we see change, and punishing the GAFAMs is a neessity in this regard.

Unless we want to end up #downgraded into the state of a US-occupied overseas possession without statehood, like #Guam, #PuertoRico or #AVI...

Wigderson is the Herbert H. Maass Professor in the School of Mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.
Prior to Wigderson's contributions, it appeared quite plausible that randomized algorithms might be qualitatively faster than deterministic computation for many fundamental problems. For example, efficient algorithms for finding large primes - a computation essential to modern cryptography - use randomization.
In a landmark series of works, Wigderson and colleagues proved that,
under standard and widely believed computational assumptions, ️every efficient randomized algorithm can in fact be fully derandomized. ️
In other words, randomness is not necessary for efficient computation.
These results revolutionized our understanding of the role of randomness in algorithms, and the way we think about randomness more generally in mathematics and computer science.

There is some confusion as it SEEMS that Google is referring to older MPEG4 streams, not current H.264 or H.265 streams in an MPEG container. Google has not provided clear documentation as yet.

Biden to declare huge national monument in Nevada, honoring tribes

President Biden will designate a #sacred #tribal #site in #southern #Nevada as a #national #monument in the coming days, according to two people briefed on the decision, creating the largest protected area of his presidency yet.

Biden will sign a proclamation putting hundreds of thousands of acres around #Spirit #Mountain — known as #Avi #Kwa #Ame (ah-VEE-kwah-may) in #Mojave — off limits to development under the 1906 Antiquities Act, the two individuals said.

The move would rank as Biden’s most consequential act of land conservation so far, and it would fulfill a promise the president made to tribal leaders more than 100 days ago.

“When it comes to Spirit Mountain and surrounding ridges and canyons in southern Nevada, I’m committed to protecting this sacred place that is central to the #creation #story of so many tribes that are here today,” Biden said at the White House Tribal Nations Summit in November. “And I look forward to being able to visit Spirit Mountain and experience it with you as soon as I can.”
