In between the typically-awful British bank holiday weather, the setting sun came out just long enough for me to take this arresting image down in #CardiffBay #MermaidQuay #Cardiff #Wales

This photo shows several neon light strips, attached to the underside of a wooden walkway down in Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay, Wales.

The neon strips are arranged in long, repeating Z patterns.

Got a couple of photos for you today, to illustrate the difference between Straight-Out-Of-Camera shots from my #Fujifulm #XH2 #photography camera, and RAW images after editing in #Lightroom

Both were taken down in #Cardiff #CardiffBay #MermaidQuay on Thursday evening, while dodging British bank holiday weather.

Which one do you prefer, and why?

This is a Straight-Out-Of-Camera (SOOC for short) JPEG of a little plant in a small planter down in Cardiff Bay.

The JPEG has preserved fantastic detail in the highlights on the leaves, without crushing the dark areas.

Pretty nice.

Looking across the sea lock as on Cardiff Bay Barrage from a specific spot where a series of yellow painted lines come together to look like a set of 3concentric rings spanning the surface of the lock walls, gates and railings

Looking along a railing on the barrage outer harbour arm towards the entrance to the lock complex. In the distance beyond the entrance, the islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm are visible and the cliffs of Penarth Head are on the right. Fishermen line the left hand harbour wall.

It was a nice to go for a #cycle around #CardiffBay this evening, although there was a woman screaming her lungs out for some reason. There was also a #pheonix in the #senedd, which I approve of.

Plenty of #Bird life at #CardiffBay yesterday, pictured are;

A defiant #CarrionCrow
A #MuteSwan family
A swooping juvenile #PiedWagtail, and
A family of #GreatCrestedGrebe

A glossy black Carrion Crow stares intently and defiantly at the camera from behind wispy grass stems and small blue flowers.

An adult mute swan , completely white apart from its black and orange bill and black brow, stares into rippled water. Water droplets fall from it's bill. Two large, fluffy, grey cygnets stare at the same spot

A juvenile Pied Wagtail swoops across the edge of the bay formed by metal "cages" of large grey rocks. The bird is mostly grey with a white underside to it's tail and belly and a black collar. The bird is tilted in flight with it's wings almost vertical and twisted in a slight corkscrew shape

An adult Great Crested Grebe and three chicks float on still water. The adult has a long pointed bill. It is mostly grey with a white face and breast and ginger patch at the back of its head. Its crest is folded back but can still be seen. The chicks are entirely grey with striped heads. The adult and one of the chicks are holding their beaks wide open

Took a #Wander across the #CardiffBayBarrage, from #Penarth and back today. Great views...... and very hot. Pictured are;

-Penarth
- The #FerrisWheel, #PierheadBuilding, #Senedd and #WalesMilleniumCentre in #CardiffBay
-The #NorwegianChurch and #CaptainScottMemorial
- A #Yacht going through the #SeaLock

Looking towards Penarth from The Cardiff Barrage:

Two Parallel footpaths, close together but at slightly different levels are joined by another, slightly sloping path. They curve around, following the shape of the barrage and resulting bay. The mechanisms of the sea locks can be seen in the distance and behind them, Penarth. The older houses built on top of a hill above a sheer sea cliff, with newer houses placed around the waterfront. The water is calm and blue, reflecting the pale blue sky above, which is sparsely populated with thin, high white clouds

Looking to Cardiff Bay from the Barrage:

Calm blue water terminates in a line of moored boats. Behind them are the iconic buildings of the "new" cardiff bay. A white Ferris wheel, the Terracotta "Pierhead" building with it's clocktower and the glass-walled "Senedd" building. Rising behind all these is the impressive "Wales Millennium Centre" It's bronze coloured walls looking like fish scales

The Norwegian Church and Scott Antartic Memorial:

A small Norwegian style church, it's walls made from white wooden boards and it's roof and spire a faded black sits behind a sculpture depicting Scott man-hauling towards the south Pole. It's surface is made of an irregular mosaic of small white tiles.

A small yacht moving into one of the sea locks of the Cardiff Barrage:

A white yacht motors into a gap between two concrete walls. It is dwarfed by the size of the lock, only it's mast pokes above the walls. Above, large grey steel arms sit that lever up the roadway to allow boats to pass through. In the background, houses and apartment blocks, some under construction, can be seen on the opposite side of the bay

Fabulous afternoon down at #CardiffBay Food Festival. Highly recommended #music #food
Absolutely boiling. More cake than you could shake a stick at. And the brilliantly mad Rogora Khart (Black Sea gypsy punk) entertaining us all. I particularly enjoyed ‘Bettws Bhangra’ Still time to see their second set this evening if you fancy it

Another short section of the #WalesCoastPath ticked off today, this time, #Penarth back to #SullyIsland. Pictured are:

-Penarth with it's pier and #CardiffBay in the background
-St Lawrence #Church at #Lavernock, with it's plaque commemorating #Marconi
-A Second World War gun emplacement and it's more modern graffitti, and
-St Mary's Well Bay and Sully Island
