A while ago @ghostbear2k and I visited Limburg an der Lahn early in the morning.
This is the Limburg Cathedral from the backside, in the front part of the towers were behind green fabric because of construction work...
On the left is the Limburg Castle.
Shot from the small island between the river Lahn and the canal for the water lock.
Despite having my opinion towards Christendom and rather following the Nordic beliefs, I always admired the ways especially cathedrals were built in the well-known gothic style.
It's amazing what people were able to create in the Middle Ages just for God's sake and if you've ever read Ken Follett's "The Pillars of the Earth" you will know what I am talking about - this archway of Canterbury Cathedral's inner courtyard is a piece of architectural excellence in terms of a gothic building!

Reminder that there's a book out there in which giant cathedrals on tracks incessantly crawl around the equator of a frozen planet to keep an uninterrupted view of a sacred stellar object.
That would be Alastair Reynolds' Absolution Gap (part of the Revelation Space series).
Here an attempted illustration from a French translation of the book.

St. Paul's Cathedral by vasily.shcherbinin
Four bas-relief squares on Lyon’s Saint-Jean Cathedral, completed in 1480. Per some sources there are 280 of these medallions, but some say 325. I really like the squirrel, likely damaged during the War of Religions or the French Revolution. Or by some passerby who hated squirrels, I guess. #lyon #church #art #france #history #cathedral #catholic #architecture #squirrel #dragon #rabbits #knights #stone #religion
"A church in Cork"
Re/peal
Arches and vaults
of creamy white stone
without any faults
or imperfect tones
form a cloister’s arcade,
pale flagstones that pave
the path to a gate
that leads to a nave.
Would this aisle lead away
from my own silent hells
and repeal my dismay,
a resonant bell?
A distant, faint chime
touches my inner ear
and quietly rhymes
with the fading of fear.
A #relief #sculpture of David, smiling confidently while holding Goliath's head, adorns the main facade of the #Milan #Cathedral. #architecture #ornaments
Fun Fact: I sometimes use an #LLM Model to correct my grammar and spelling. In this case, it consistently wanted to change the location to Florence, since the David over there is much more famous. It also scolded me for claiming it to be in relief.
