I'm not too fluent at identifying the less common ragworts but I think this is Narrow-leaved Ragwort. I'm used to seeing it on waste ground, so it was a bit of a surprise in a planted woodland area next to an ancient wood nature reserve. At Ravensroost on Friday.

A plant with lots of yellow daisy-shaped flowers. The petals are a bit longer than a normal ragwort, the leaves are quite thin and underneath the flowers the bracts are green, without black tips which lots of ragwort species have.

There has to be Fleabane at this time of year. Even if there wasn't a #DaisyFamily challenge, the sheer diversity of insects it attracts demands respect. This one has a Sun Fly (sometimes called the Footballer Fly apparently because of the stripes!). A cluster of yellow flowers shaped like daisies with a single fly sat on one. The fly is yellow and black, with very bold yellow stripes on its black thorax.

Autumn Hawkbit. A single bright yellow flower shaped a bit like a dandelion but with a lot fewer petals.

A cluster of Guernsey Fleabane flowers. They are vey inconspicuous, the petals extremely short. It isn't easy to tell which is the open flower among the buds.

Fleabane. A single yellow flower, shaped like a daisy but with the central part larger, giving the impression of a tiny sunflower.

Fox and Cubs. A cluster of bright orange flowers on the end of a stalk so no leaves are visible. There is a hover-fly on one of the flowers.

This week's challenge for #WildflowerHour was the #DaisyFamily. Which is handy as I was at #Wiltshire #WildlifeTrust #CloutsWood on Thursday, which has lots of Woolly Thistle, without doubt the best flower in the daisy family. Awesome things.

A very large thistle flower. Two bumble bees have almost disappeared into it. Below the florets, the flower head is covered in fine hairs (hence the name "woolly").
