Lear<p>I say this with full admission that I am new to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DeepPurple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DeepPurple</span></a>, haven't done any background reading on the band's history, and my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> knowledge is limited. But FWIW: a lot of people say that Ian <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Gillan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gillan</span></a> was the band's best vocalist. But listening to their full discography in chronological order, things start to sound stale by 1972/1973 to me. In Stormbringer, I feel like David <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Coverdale" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Coverdale</span></a> and the band bring a refreshing, bluesy sound. Looking forward to hearing the rest of their albums.</p>

(in Jesus Christ Superstar)? Yes indeed! Now I'm going down the Ian <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Gillan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gillan</span></a> rabbit hole.</p>

Here is another one: lately, I've been listening to a lot of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DeepPurple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DeepPurple</span></a> for the first time and I'm amazed by Jon Lord's keyboards. Daddy was an organist, an avid <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> fan, and owned both chart-topping and obscure <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a>. He loved fusion and innovative sounds. Yet, he never owned a Deep Purple album -- at least not from the mid-1970s through his death. What's up with that? LOL</p>
