I think I can now safely say that "Little Willy" has beaten last year's "Sally" for height!
She still has it for largest leaf though!

Ann seems a little concerned over how tall 'Little Willy' is getting! I'll be happy if he reaches to the height of the white-washing!
Her neighbour really is letting the neighbourhood down again

The competition sunflower has recovered from its shock of the other day, and is now just shy of 5ft! I've named him 'Little Willy', btw. My 88 year old next door neighbour (it's in her yard) often asks me where I am when I'm out the back. I can now reply "I'm tending to my Little Willy" #FavSF25 #ContainerGardening #Gardening #Kent #England
I'm glad to say that it had perked up a lot by the end of the day! Only two leaves lost, I think I've top dressed it with a better quality compost, so hopefully it'll now be easier to tell when it's drying out

I knew that rough (not fully-decomposed) compost I brought would cause me to mess up the watering!
Fortunately, I caught it in time, but it might encourage it to start flowering sooner than I had hoped

My neighbour insisted that I move the competition sunflower into the corner that only gets the morning sunshine (it's her yard). It only has a foot to get to the top of the fence and more sun, so maybe it will encourage it to grow!
Measured this morning at 1.20m (4ft exactly!)

Two brick courses taller in four days ain't bad, eh?!
I've given both the competition variety (left) and the cutting variety (right) longer canes, as they were looking vulnerable to the wind

Both the remaining sunflowers (an unnamed competition variety, left, and the "Copper Queen", a cut flower variety, right) are both in need of better canes, I think. The competition one has definitely grown by a couple of brick courses in a cloudy week! #FavSF25 #Faversham #Kent #England
I've moved the competition sunflower back into the sunniest spot in my neighbour's tiny back yard. Currently, I make that 7 brick courses high #Sunflowers #Gardening #Kent #England #FavSF25
I potted this year's competition sunflower into its final container yesterday! It's the nearest one in the pic from last week. The other was given away - it better not win!

How the sunflowers are looking two weeks on from potting on. The tall one's one of the 'Copper Queens' (I've given the other two away to friends) and the smaller ones are the competition variety #sunflowers #Faversham #Kent #England #FavSF25
@clew Thanks, clew. I was told it was for charity, but I couldn't find any mention of this on the website. It's being run by my local town council, and yes, it's based on height. I'm doing it on behalf of my elderly neighbour. We hope to enter in the "Grown in a pot" category https://favershamtowncouncil.gov.uk/%F0%9F%8C%BB-faversham-sunflower-growing-competition-2025-%F0%9F%8C%BB/ #FavSF25
