Fedi.Tips<p>Do you publish videos on PeerTube? You can optionally give people early/exclusive access to videos by publishing them as "unlisted" or "password protected". Fedi.Tips<p>If you see an account that looks interesting, follow it!</p><p>Don't worry if it seems inactive or blank, it probably just looks that way because you're the first person to follow it from your server. schuh<p>PSA and Warning simultaneously, I guess:</p><p>By default, your profile will be non-discoverable*. This means among other things that those profiles do not show up in the instance directory such as for example at <a href="https://academiccloud.social/directory" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">academiccloud.social/directory</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> or at <a href="https://social.kit.edu/directory" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">social.kit.edu/directory</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>At the same time, enabling this as an individual is interpreted as consent to be included, for example, in starter packs at <a href="https://fedidevs.com/starter-packs/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">fedidevs.com/starter-packs/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> so decide carefully.</p><p>*that is a good thing: a privacy-first approach with opt-in</p><p><a href="https://academiccloud.social/tags/feditips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>feditips</span></a> <a href="https://academiccloud.social/tags/reach" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>reach</span></a> <a href="https://academiccloud.social/tags/discoverability" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>discoverability</span></a> <a href="https://academiccloud.social/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a> <a href="https://academiccloud.social/tags/starterpack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>starterpack</span></a></p>

Solution found! Thanks @Kitty

(But if you've got any other suggestions - keep them coming!)

I saw a toot recently suggesting it was possible to blur selected images - I think the example was pictures containing spiders.
Is this a thing, and how is it achieved?
Is it app specific?

Do you post in more than one language?

Mastodon's web interface now automatically detects which language you are posting in and suggests switching to it in the posting language indicator.

For example, if you have your posting language set to English but you start writing in French, the language indicator notices this and starts glowing yellow. Also, French appears at the top of its language list.

In response to feedback, I've tweaked the Fedi.Tips guide to transferring your Mastodon account to another server:

➡️ fedi.tips/transferring-your-ma

It's still the same instructions but I've tried to make the language clearer, and spread them out over a few more steps so that each step is as easy as possible.

Also added some more answers to common questions about transfers.

If you have any questions about transferring your account, no matter how simple, feel free to ask 🙂

Mentioning an account is also known as @-ing because you type @ and then the name of the account. It's also known as tagging a person.

I've done a full guide all about mentions on Mastodon and the wider Fediverse:

➡️ fedi.tips/what-are-mentions-on

Hopefully this answers all the questions people have about this topic. Let me know if I've missed something 🙂
