Headline: The Freezer Aisle Is (Finally) Getting a Queer Makeover

Source: @TheKitchn

From the article: "For all the ease frozen meals promised, they frequently lacked nuance and a sense of soul. The flavors were muted. The packaging, predictable. The result was food that felt functional, but not personal.

"In more recent years, consumers have been introduced to a welcomed and fresh set of entrepreneurs. A new generation of queer founders are reshaping frozen food with more flavor and meaning. These products embody an ethos that goes well beyond convenience.

"They represent responsible sourcing, personal stories, and cultural expression. They reflect the collective lived experiences of underrepresented communities. These brands are turning an everyday corner of the grocery store into a space where joy and representation sit side by side."

#FrozenFood can be tasty and top quality, therefore the market for the prepared meals should shift towards frozen food by creating a significant price difference between the fresh and the frozen meals. Even workplaces have microwaves, reheating frozen food is easy and it should bear no stigma.

Here is how potent the freezing technology of our times actually is (relevant part starts at 12:46):

We also have to talk about #FrozenFood and their bad rep. This is another sin and a complete failure in #PublicPolicy and government communication.

In our modern world we have stunningly good #FreezingTechnology and #ColdChains and it is still continuously improving.

It should be a government PR priority to educate and promote how healthy and affordable quality frozen food can be.

Came home to an empty fridge. Made a trip to the grocery to restock and spotted the frozen Cincinnati-style chili (wiki) section that was discussed while in Florida.

Pro-tip: Never buy the frozen chili dip, it is revolting. All you need is chili, cream cheese and shredded cheddar to make it happen, which should probably not happen often, otherwise it wouldn’t be special.

Also? Avoid shelf stable cans of Cincinnati chili as they add a metallic note to the already… complex flavor.

Not pictured: Lots of produce in the cart.

After reading Chris van Tulleken's book I'm really "off" ultra-processed food - which is most of the shit they sell in supermarkets, TBH.

Another factor helping me clean up my act is the air fryer - in itself a fantastic energy and time-saving invention. However, try cooking something like frozen chicken nuggets a few times without cleaning the pan. What you are left in the pan is a coating that is, well, horrific.

I'm thinkin abt meal prep for the weeks post-surgery when I won't be able to lift my arms up past my chest.

One idea: bulk buying chicken, adding whatever marinade/seasonings I'll want on each portion (maybe fresh or sauteed onions and/or garlic too?) and freezing them raw in bags to thaw later and cook in the oven, getting help from my roommates if needed.
Is this a good plan? I've never frozen meat before
