miguelLooking up to the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/trees?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#trees</a> at the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/gardens?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#gardens</a> of the#beautiful <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/MeijiJingu?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MeijiJingu</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Shrine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Shrine</a>!
Strider Longshanks<p>In the Meiji Jingu garden is an iris bed, set in a water fed marsh/mud, with <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Japanese" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Japanese</span></a> pond <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/turtles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>turtles</span></a> swimming around in the channels that delimit the plantings. The <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/iris" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iris</span></a> garden cost 3€ to enter, which is just to help pay the upkeep of that particular area of the park. The irises flower in June, and were quite simply magnificent. <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Butterflies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Butterflies</span></a> and <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/dragonflies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dragonflies</span></a> were flitting and fluttering around. A real gem in my book. We also went and visited a well that was captured in the <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Edo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Edo</span></a> period, and a small lake brimming with water lilies.<br><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/meijijingu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meijijingu</span></a> <br><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/tokyo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tokyo</span></a></p>
Strider Longshanks<p>Went to Meiji Park today, and the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine, and we were very grateful for the shade offered by the woodland that surrounds it. At the shrine, in the inner courtyard, there was a display of twenty or so bonsai trees of varying ages. The oldest one there appeared to be this specimen, a mere 300 years old! This was the first time I'd seen so many bonsai trees together in one place. If you are interested in getting away from the urban bustle of <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/Harakuju" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Harakuju</span></a>, then Meiji Jingu is the place to go.<br><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/tokyo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tokyo</span></a><br><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/meijijingu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meijijingu</span></a> <br><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/shintoshrine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>shintoshrine</span></a></p>

While the trip was pretty much ruined by me getting the flu (boooh!), I still have some lovely memories. </p><p>Especially walking through Yoyogi Park on my way down to Shibuya.
