Somewhere, buried in my boxes, are some 40 year old cassette tapes of my high school band, Squid Legion, performing an aural mutilation of #BlackSabbath "Paranoid".
It took me all of 10 seconds to decide to let sleeping dogs lie and put on the original(plus the Dickies awesome cover). A much saner choice, I must say.

Puddles Pity Party opened for Al. I was not prepared. It was fantastic. And Puddles did a tribute to Ozzy. So good.
One of my favorite things about living in Chicago is the number of free events that are available all year long. In the summer, the Museum of Contemporary Art hosts free jazz concerts on their back lawn.

"Pop punk emo golden age throwback"
Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, died today at age 76. NBC created this @Flipboard Storyboard about his life and career. “I do count my lucky stars," Osbourne told @RollingStone in 2023. "I don’t know why I’m still here and I do sometimes think I’m on borrowed time. I said to Sharon the other day, ‘What a great f-----g life we’ve had and what a great f-----g experience.’”

Don't Shoot the Piano Tuner
That's the title of a book a good friend of mine is writing.
"The Secret Life of Pianos, From the Woods to the Concert Stage is a deep dive into the world of the piano filled with stories of famous pianists interspersed with interludes and musings about music, sound, tuning and tone."

Meanwhile, Ampwall fans call it "a twisting web of undulating, pulsing, living sounds, kept moving by infectious beats and grooves" and "Glitchy & grindy ... tripped-out & ambient ... always shifting & churning & full of crunchy, spacey electronic groove"

THE AFGHAN WHIGS
Gentlemen
2025 U.S. reissue
Canary Yellow #vinyl
This is part of the same series of “Elektra At 75” reissues from this year as the copy of Superdrag’s Regretfully Yours that I recently posted.
I have the “Gentlemen at 21” reissue of this from 2014. I bought this because everyone’s said it sounds really good. And it does.
However, it does NOT sound better than the 2014. It’s far less dynamic sounding to my ears, but if you can’t get your hands on one of those, this is a very nice entry level pressing for those who want a vinyl version.
This album is still a stone-cold stunner, and the first album in a run of three that helped define the #90s for me. I find Black Love and 1965 to be equally epic.
We still occasionally play “Debonair” in our live sets, and we fucking slay it every time.
