Los Padres National Forest is a 1.75 million acre jewel that encompasses beaches, redwood forests, semi-deserts, and more. Hundreds of thousands of acres in remote areas are intact wilderness. Trump wants paved roads in that wilderness and in protected forests throughout the US. May open pristine forest to logging.
USDA opened a comment period on road building in US National Forests. Link in article. Please stop this travesty.

I wish to state my opposition to undoing the 2001 Roadless Rule. This rule must stay in place to protect the homes and businesses adjacent to national forests and to protect the water those communities depend on that flows through the National Forests.
A look at the past 20 years of wildfires shows that most wildfires start near roads. Roads let in people. People play with fire. The fires burn out of control. After more than 20 years of monitoring, the science is clear--forest health is improved by fewer roads, not more, and water quality is improved by more forest, not more roads.
If this administration wants to reduce wildfire risk in roadless areas, the 2001 Roadless Rule has an exception for smaller-diameter timber to be cut and sold in areas that are at risk of severe fires. The logging goals of this administration could be achieved by small-diameter timber logging, the kind that actually creates more jobs because it is a human-intensive operation, not one that can be mechanized.
I ask you to please follow the science and retain the 2001 Roadless Rule to preserve our National Forests and clean water for generations to come.

Oregonians could soon have less input on more than half the land in the state
People have until Monday to comment on a Trump administration proposal to drastically limit public input on logging in Oregon and Washington.
