Just back from a 24-hour flying visit to the University of Sheffield with Mrs C and Louis.
Just enough time to soak up the atmosphere, explore the campus, and start picturing the next chapter.
Some great architecture too — captured on a 1976 #Polaroid 1000 Land Camera.

I'm speaking at a conference in September! (For a 5-minute lightning talk)
Like so many other things related to my profession, it's going to be different as a retiree than when I was working full time.

Ok with the ferocity of these thunderstorms I don't feel like a wimp (anymore) for not heading over the mountains on small roads as it gets dark
Will leave as the sun rises tomorrow!

Is retirement somehow bad for your brain? A recent NY Times articles might leave that impression, but the actual studies it's based on tell a different - and more nuanced - story.

I knew I needed to be prepared for a stock market downturn sometime after I retired. But I was kind of hoping one wouldn't happen the *first* year I stopped working. . . .

I’m in the midst of a big contrast in retirement weeks at the moment. This past week: Some fun events! (when I’m not following current events) Next week: Not so much.

It sometimes seem hard to know when is the right time to retire -- until you do. I'm not sorry I retired sooner than I initially planned.

There are 4 phases of retirement that “most” people move through in retirement, Dr. Riley Moynes argues in a TEDx talk viewed more than 3 million times. But I’m not sure that's quite as widespread as he claims.
