Even photographing through a telescope it can be hard to tell if the #DuckOfTheDay is a #TuftedDuck or a #Pochard when they are this #CameraShy... help please?

A Red-crested Pochard turned up on a park lake in #Crediton #Devon and, as I'd never been to Shobrooke Park, I though I'd make the effort to go and see it - especially as it's the first of the year for me. It didn't seem to like the pair of Tufted Duck!

A long day as Dave , Andy and I went to see a visiting North American duck that has been in Essex for a while. The single male Canvasback was difficult to find amongst the hundreds of very similar Pochard but we had excellent views as it was close to the road causeway over Abberton Reservoir.

Canvasback

A very peaceful three hours at Bowling Green Marsh this morning. It was teeming with birds including #Avocet, #Dunlin, #Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, #Redshank, #Snipe (11), Spotted Redshank (1), Bar-tailed Godwit (1), #Greenshank (1); #Pochard, #Wigeon, #Pintail, #Mallard, #Shoveler, #Shelduck, Tufted Duck as well as some pleasant company and a flask of tea.
