Did I say I am having a bad time with the batch of floppies?
The good news is that I managed to recover the bad sectors I had yesterday.
The bad news is that, it needs another fucking #dongle #retroComputing #softwareArchiving

The easiest genAI pics to spot are the ones with supposedly retro/vintage computers. The differences from the real things are not subtle and if an account keeps using such images, automatic block from me.
Stop taking the easiest option as it's also pretty awful in output and resource usage. Use actual pics and credit the person/org who took it. Or take your own pics.

A bit of #retroComputing today. Need to upgrade my browser probably. Need to clean the ball of the mouse too. This was my first pc (if you don’t count C64).

Commodore OS Vision 3.0 Linux-based OS arrives to spruce up Retro Builds.

It's kind of nice that gopher is slowly sneaking its way back to life again. #RetroComputing
Does anyone happen to have photos of the internals of the top clamshell of a PowerBook G3 (Pismo, Lombard, etc) popped open? I'm trying to find photos of the brittle plastic tabs that keep both parts together so I know what I'm dealing with before causing a tragedy. It's surprisingly hard to find this on the intertubes. #retrocomputing #RetroApple

Grabbed three Macs this afternoon after visiting @mike - PowerMac 8500 mini tower, PowerMac 7200 and a LC II as well as a 13" Apple monitor. No battery bombs on any of the machines, and I have made sure the batteries are removed.
Sadly most of the 8500's internal plastics have broken, which is a sad sight. It does power up though.
The 7200 appears to be complete and very clean inside.
The LC II as you see from the photos is pretty mint inside, and does power up, but sadly the 13" monitor while it powers up, does not show any display.

An interview with James Gosling on the 30th anniversary of Java. It's a good profile of the man and his work as I knew little about him.
At Sun, Gosling found a rare environment where technical excellence could thrive alongside playful creativity — an atmosphere that clearly shaped his approach to technology and problem-solving throughout his career.

This morning, I'd like to treat your eyes to a particularly rare specimen of the computer history. A #Yodobashi #Formula1, distributed in Germany by the company Schoppe&Faeser located in Minden. It was used as a "mobile" programming station for the company's early control systems. And btw, it's fully functional right now.

Thanks @declan for dropping off a box of cool stuff this morning! Will be posting more a bit later about some of this, but first off there was a gorgeous old Cambridge Soundworks speaker setup, so I kind of had to get the 486 out and set up to test it.
Time for a symphony in beige.
The 27" QHD Philips 275E1S monitor apparently can sync to 15kHz RGB on its VGA input. This may interest some folks out there.

And thanks to @pluralistic I also found out yesterday about a computer museum a short drive away - I hope you make it there soon!
And since the pic of my office in the previous toot was an older one - here's the add on there taken today - my first computer a #ZXSpectrum (needs a TV to work - yes of course I have an old CRT at home...so kids know what color a dead channel is)
And while I'm showing off old junk some disks that persist after culls (don't ask why)
