A majestic 300-year-old Polish beech just won Tree of the Year -- for the 4th time! It really is a gorgeous tree, but it's also fun to look through photos of other trees nominated for this award.

The Skipinnish Tree
A 400yr-old sessile oak hiding in a sitka spruce plantation in Lochaber, Argyll and voted Woodland Trust Tree of the Year 2024.
I'd seen videos and photos of this great tree and figured had a pretty clear idea how I wanted to shoot it myself - good thing I found it while it was still daylight as it's just a bit spooky... :)

Scotland’s ancient Skipinnish Oak wins UK Tree of the Year
The tree in Lochaber is named after the folk band Skipinnish, who discovered it by chance while playing a local gig for the Native Woodland Discussion Group.
The band said they were delighted the tree ('this great old wise being of Achnacarry!') won and plan to write a new song in its honour.
This sweet chestnut tree is perhaps over 500 years old. This large tree is symbol of resilience in the city of Wrexham. Through war and storm this tree continues to grow and flourish.
Can you show your love for the tree by voting for it in the European Tree of the Year?
Vote, let us know you've voted, and then share this post. Let us get as many people as possible making this tree European Tree of the Year!

If you have a moment, consider dedicating it to voting for the Marquis' Oak in Utrecht for #TreeOfTheYear
The national government has for years been planning to cut it down to make way for the nearby #highway, much to dismay of us locals. This is one of the ways in which we hope to apply counterpressure.
2/3 @bluekoala065@nerdculture.de I thought it looked pagan-ish , or gothic, old hunting grounds 16th century ish. Antler shapes, with reaching arms. I love that it’s shaped the Summergill brooke, & possibly vice versa. Ash has the biggest biomass of roots, very deep rooted….It really ought to be in the #Cymru #treeoftheyear.
