The palace in an Italian village where two retired US sopranos ‘repair’ broken opera voices.

Voice coaches Lisa Paglin and Marianna Brilla have transformed an old palazzo in Osimo into a ‘bel canto’ sanctuary where promising young artists and established opera singers alike come to retrain their vocal cords.

I have a new post at AI Mind: “How to Think With AI Without Losing Yourself.”

AI makes writing feel easy, but that ease can erode your voice. I break down why cringe is feedback, cheating marks a gap, and fluency is risk. I also share five steps to keep thinking alive when you use AI.

I'm also looking for a singing voice coach who is reasonably trans and queer competent.

Is this you? Are you accepting new students? PM me?

I'm not presently looking to present my voice as any perceived gender, my voice is a woman's voice in whatever timbre I sing, but I do sing in roughly the tenor range.

I recently reached out to a few who advertise as such but haven't heard back as yet.

To win the 2026 midterms, #democrats must adopt a bold, #confrontational strategy and focus on key issues like #healthcare, #economic #inequality, and #climatechange, clearly distinguishing themselves from the #gop .

They need to mobilize grassroots efforts to engage voters, emphasizing #community #involvement and local solutions.

With strong, assertive messaging to energize their base while appealing to moderates by showcasing their #commitment to #progress.
Prioritize #voterrights and #accessibility, ensuring #every #voice is heard.

Seems exactly what is going on, right?

Do not buy. Do not use. Do not accept. The rapid rollout of voice recorders sold as "helpful" tools that can transcribe your conversations, make summaries, manage tasks, etc is part of what Shoshana Zuboff calls the Cycle of Dispossession. This is big tech habituating the public to ever-present always-on surveillance sold as convenience but in reality a wholesale data capture at the cost of privacy and freedom of thought. These devices should be banned in workplaces, public spaces, educational and healthcare facilities, every place where they are being marketed to be "helpful". They should be mandated to have bright blinking lights and visible "YOU ARE BEING RECORDED" warnings, and the wearer should be required to get written consent from every person within recording distance. In today's political climate only loud, persistent, unwavering public demands for immediate regulation will stop this tech from becoming omnipresent in our lives. Honestly, I doubt our elected representatives will understand the harms let alone act fast enough to stop them from being normalized. So while we speak up and demand protection from omni-surveillance, we have to take proactive steps to protect ourselves: - Learn to spot these devices - Tell the user to turn them off - Educate family, friends, and coworkers on the harms - Refuse to comply - Build countermeasures Considering the obvious harms, why are companies rolling out this technology? And why are people buying it? For many AI companies and AI True Believers, always-on recording of every conversation is a means to rapidly obtain massive quantities of voice and language data to train future models - a logical next step now that they've used ul all public data. Those who believe in the "scaling law" - that more data = better/smarter/more powerful AI - also think any conversation not recorded and processed by AI is "wasted" and see no harm in recording everything all the time because "it is just used by AI." Many potential users - especially students, healthcare workers, and others who rely on notes from conversations - are falling for the marketing of convenience without considering the privacy-destroying consequences of using these devices. The rollout and adoption of AI voice recorders is techno-utopian ideology at its most detached from reality. Omni-surveillance is objectively harmful to privacy and freedom of thought and speech. It is also extremely valuable as a means of population control, and authoritarian governments around the world are surely salivating at the prospect of people willingly recording and uploading themselves and anyone around them to the cloud. This tech normalized is the Orwellian end of privacy and freedom of thought and speech. It is already happening. Do not comply. https://lnkd.in/gj_e-GTz | 37 comments on LinkedIn

Voting Is Voice

Today is the anniverary of the Nineteenth Amendment

By Liza Donnelly, Aug 26, 2025 Today is the anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, when the US passed a law prohibiting states from denying women the right to vote. However, Black women were not able to vote for another 45 years when the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965 by President Johnson. A drawing by the woman cartoonist Lou Rogers from 1912

Heather Cox Richardson created a short video explaining the history of the Amendment. Thanks, Heather, for reminding me of this anniverary!

It took decades of struggle for women— and male advocates— to gain suffrage. Our rights are again under seige from members of the Trump administration, it’s frightening.

Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow! Have a good Tuesday, all.

Combining environmental #fieldrecording #voice and #Musical compositions, the soundscape will be a constantly evolving, immersive environment. Visitors will encounter shifting layers of sonic meaning, reflecting on the rhythms that emerge through watery communications between different forms of intelligence.

Contextualisation in the global sphere will be provided through commissioned texts exploring the social and environmental aspects of expanding digital infrastructure for AI.
