I tried out the #ooni network tester app from #FDroid. I have good connectivity here in #Malaysia, both from a cellular SIM card connection, and the monastery wifi (a fiber internet connection).
But alas, the Ooni tests don't test for #XMPP, in their instant messaging apps testing! Only #Facebook, #Signal, Telegram, and Facebook Messenger are tested for, apparently. I do have trouble with XMPP, on the fiber internet here. Insidiously, brief XMPP text messages can be sent, but any video memo (say, 40MB in size, about 4 min worth of video) will only 1% upload, then get stuck. Attempts to resend will keep getting stuck. It seems that the XMPP traffic gets throttled to nothing after a small amount of data is sent: say, 400kb or so. I *can* send these video memos from my cellular SIM card connection.
I wish Ooni could have warned me about this, as it caused a friend to not receive a video memo for about 10 days, until I caught on to what was happening.
The next #XMPP Developer Sprint is coming up.
Wikimedia Offices, Berlin, Germany
Friday, May 23rd - Sunday, May 25th 2025
Sprints (aka Hackathons) are a great opportunity for interoperability testing, planning new features, meeting other XMPP developers and generally having a good time.

What's the recommended method of setting up two #XMPP servers on one IP? (Okay, more, they'll use IPv6 as well, yes)
Different ports and DNS entries?
Does Prosody allow forwarding everything meant for another server?
I have two VPS where I need two different servers. On both one of them is Prosody, the other will be something else.
Boom, Movim 0.30.1 is out!
In this new release you'll find a new avatar and banner configuration panel, animated GIF support in the picture proxy and some more improvements in the internal color palette management
Movim is also now supports the XEP-0392: Consistent Color Generation that allows you to have the same default color for your contacts between all the XMPP clients !
And as always bug fixes and improvements

Oh! The XMPP web client Movim still exists! It has vanished from my tech radar years ago.
With #Dino_im v0.5 arriving in Debian stable (backports) it's now my primary #XMPP client. I will use #Gajim only for special tasks like room maintenance or service discovery.
Dino is (from user perspective) pretty simple, some features are still missing, but as a basic client for daily text/image communication it's really sufficient.

Conversations 2.18.2 is available on Google Play and has client side mitigations for a server side security issue that was recently discovered and fixed in #ejabberd¹ and #OpenFire²
Go update your server. But just in case that takes a minute Conversations has your back too!
This release also fixes an issue with restoring (importing) backups on recent Android versions.

Dino 0.5.0 is now in #Debian 13 #trixie and Debian 12 stable-#backports. Enjoy chatting!
@lastquake a #XMPP-#Bot would be even better, as #Telegram demands #PII in the form of a #PhoneNumber!
O pasarnos a DeltaChat, vaya.
Sinceramente.

This document describes what JoinJabber does and what we aim to achieve. It also describes what our values are and a way to make proposals to the entire community.
