Anyway. No time to chat. Time to attach my Niwaki hori hori to my belt and amble down to the #allotment.
Corn-fest continues. Second picking, another dozen ears to the table tonight. Too hot to cook indoors, so the boiling happens outside in the big corn pot. BeetBear keeps count for us.

The Kentucky Blue green beans are still producing lots of beans, in spite of the plants being all frizzled by the heat. Got almost a full basket this morning, just before the heat index topped 100°F (38°C) again. Going back inside for ice tea & pineapple juice on the rocks...

New potatoes from the #allotment are a win.
Productive ~7 hour day down the #allotment — the plot is now (probably) muntie* proof, and hopefully somewhat rabbit resistant.
Big progress on the front fence and gateway, whole front centre area of the plots has been tidied up. Temporary back barrier using the freecycle lattice. Strimmed the rear DMZ and out front of the plots.
As usual plant care is taking a back seat to construction. :( But next year... next year...
* muntjack, or sika deer — not a slang term for the native Fenlanders, we call them webbies, on account of the webbed toes for swamp wading.
This rain and humidity has the squashes and cukes pumping out more surplus daily. It's getting hard to keep up. More surplus for the neighbors went out this morning and I found a nice note in the cart when I went to pick it all up later. Everything gone in about two hours.

First batch of onions drying in the outhouse. #allotment #growyourown #onions #gardening
Went to the allotment to quickly chuck some water at my greenhouse beds and pick some cucumbers and beans for tea. And while I’ve got my back turned one of my neighbours walks past shouting “Oi oi! Love the colour there Lauren! Wahey!” Nothing like the joy of a novelty shed and it’s appreciation #allotment
Some utter bastard is nipping off our (late planted) potstoes at the #allotment. Rabbits or munties? We have a lot of both around here...
Incentive to finish the fences.

The corn-fest has begun! First 8 ears of what we hope will be more than 200 (fingers crossed). I know people have OPINIONS about cooking corn but around here we get the water boiling before we pick, pick & shuck the corn, and drop it in the boiling water for 3-5 minutes and bring it to the table for immediate consumption. Butter and salt to taste. BTW this is a yellow & white super sweet variety called "Flagler" .

I don't need to look at the weather forecast to tell the AQI is bad today (150+) Look at the difference in these two garden shots. May versus today... Hard to breathe.

Some shots of the flowering garden area of the allotment in the hazy sunshine.
My hubby bought these to use as raised beds on the #allotment.
I'm thinking of growing Swedes in them.
Three weeks at the #allotment:
We completed the #polytunnel.
The whole plot has been strimmed down to ground level
2 of the pallet built #compost heaps have been removed, the wood will, where possible be reused, and the rest recycled, or chipped and composted.
While digging out and sorting the compost from one of the heaps, we found some red-skinned #potatoes, which we may be able to use as seed potatoes.
