TFW you're trying to hang out and act normal but you're just, like, pretty stoned, man.

A northern mockingbird stopped by just after the grackle chased the red-bellied off the platform feeder it was checking out (!) and scared everyone else away, but I can't quite count that.
Flycatchers are not unusual for our area, but this was a first.
Great Crested Flycatcher in the backyard.
Blessed by a little morning visit from a cardinal and a wren on the back deck.
#backyardbirding
Today's small friend is this red-bellied woodpecker who has unexpectedly visited the suet feeder yesterday and today. Please come back anytime!
If you've ever seen me refer to mourning doves as stupid or heard someone use "birdbrain" as an insult, and felt that either of these was an unfair commentary on a noble creature, I present Exhibit A in defense of these comments.
Today's small friend is this northern mockingbird who, in true mimic fashion, has learned to cling to the finch feeder like a finch.
#BirdCallOut Cactus Wren! In my tiny backyard! I saw a medium sized bird at the water bath, and at first I thought it was the mockingbird we haven't seen around in the past couple weeks. But when I grabbed my binocs, I saw it was a Cactus Wren. These are sometimes seen (more often heard) in the nearby arroyo, but this is the first time I've seen one in our yard!
This grackle really reminds me of a bird from some animated show or movie, but I can't quite place it.
