Bought some cheapo #bigfinish #doctorwho CDs in their Easter clearance sale. Mostly 5th Doc monthly adventures from eons ago. I bought the monthly range religiously when they started for the first five years or so until the 8th Doctor series disappeared up its own bum for a while. Anyway, I love the recent boxed sets, but miss the traditional four parters, so looking forward to these.

So, I’ve just come out of listening to first episode of OCAS and it was brilliant. Really intriguing and compelling - and it feels dangerously real.

#bigfinish and the writers have done an incredible job.

I can’t wait for the next part.

#doctorwho Hooklight 1 from #bigfinish has arrived! Honestly, I sort of ordered this by mistake. Had some Christmas money, but didn't pay attention and didn't realise it was a two parter and that I'd ordered the individual CD and not the bundle. Was a bit down about it, but it's had some decent reviews so I'm excited to listen (once the kids are back at school). Second part comes out next month.

Finally got around to listening to #bigfinish 2nd #DoctorWho lost story Operation Werewolf while painting the attic landing today. Bounced off last year before the end of the first episode. Thought it was going to be a purely historical grim WW2 story, but turns out to be pseudo historical with some scifi shenanigans and time travel adjacent fluff. Fun!

Michael Troughton great playing his Dad. Having French and German speakers in the cast helped it avoid the Allo Allo trap. Really enjoyed it.

On the (plus?) side, I’ve been listening to early #BigFinish. Just listened to the sensibly named Bang Bang-a-Boom.

It is everything you could possibly expect from a Doctor Who/Star Trek/Poirot/Eurovision mashup. It’s a delightfully silly story

And Sylvester McCoy would have made a lovely Poirot.

Yay I’m listening to my second favourite #WarMaster box set, “Killing Time” - i know that sounds like a backhanded compliment but #MasterOfCallous is practically a whole level to itself in excellence - my favourite aspect is the interplay with Calantha, but the guest appearances of Jo and Nyssa also work incredibly well. It doesn’t feel like the overplayed #BigFinish tactic of chucking random characters together.

I’ve said it before (I’ll definitely say it again) but I do love me the misery of the war master being a fiendish, machiavellan, magnificent bastard. #DoctorWho

New Tom Baker #doctorwho audio today from #bigfinish. The Hellwood Inheritance. Normally I wait for the CD to arrive, but I was painting the attic room today so popped in the earbuds and listened.

Hot take: starts off good, very 4th Doc era, turns into a bit of a runaround by the start of episode 3. Enjoyable, but ultimately a bit disappointing. Tom having fun which makes up for it all, and good to have another 4th and Leela. A lockdown recording so slightly disjointed.

I stumbled across a short animation of a 4th Doctor adventure. The animation was great and I soon found out it was a Big Finish audio story from 2013 with the voices of Tom Baker, Mary Tamm (Romana v1) and John Leeson (K9).

It perfectly captured the vibe of the Fourth Doctor stories. I bought it, installed the app and was entertained for the next hour and a bit by a superb story that worked perfectly as a radio play.

#003: "Whispers of Terror" is mostly Fine, but "sentient recording of dead politician's speeches" and "people with various political interests trying to abuse those recordings to their own ends" somehow adds up to nothing but a muddled mess.

Later efforts are far more succesful at trying to do audio-specific stories.

(Also really weird to hear Colin still playing it so aggressively.)
