This is simply gorgeous work: Giant, by Mollie Ray, who was tagged as one of the emerging indie comics talents to watch for by Broken Frontier (a top UK site covering Indie comics).

It is entirely wordless, the emotional story of a family dealing with illness is carried purely by the artwork, layout & framing (also making it ideal for anyone with dyslexia or reading problems).

I strongly suspect I will be adding this one to my own collection...

#WhatWereReading : Joe enjoyed the Japanese bestseller, Dinner at the Night Library by Hika Harada, translated by Philip Gabriel.

Otaha starts working in the library, which archives the literary collection of deceased authors, and where the live-in chef prepares meals based on those in novels.

Ideal for those who enjoyed Before the Coffee Gets Cold, or Days at the Morasaki Bookshop. Out now from Scriber Books

#WhatWereReading : Joe found Darryl Cunningham's well-researched graphic biography, Elon Musk, American Oligarch, a fascinating & accessible read.

Exploring his family history from a grandfather who decided Aprtheid era South Africa looked like a good place to raise a family, to building his American empire and the complex relationships with colleagues, collaborators & friends (and then often ex-colleagues, collaborators and friends!).

Cunningham has a knack for taking complicated material and delivering it in a deceptively simple cartooning style - previous graphic works have included Billionaires (which sits well with this book), Supercrash (the 2008 financial meltdown) and Science Tales. Highly recommended.
