EDIT: Nope it's the Sydney show. 🤦‍♀️👍

So.... the #CriticalRole Indianapolis live show is airing in movie theatres on Tuesday. We bought tickets, our first time doing anything like this. We're very much looking forward to it.

The show.... dropped on YouTube today.

What..... ? 😕

Guys. That's a kick in your ticket buyers' wallets. Sheesh chill out & wait a few weeks or don't sell movie theatre showings. Bizarre.

#CriticalRole are sort of implying that after ten years it's hard to keep the same level of energy and enthusiasm and so they need a new GM and possibly a few new players.
Meanwhile, #GlassCannon have been going on for pretty much the same time, doing more than one campaign at the same time and two live shows every month and still seem excited to mess around with new game systems.
My guess: the CR folks are simply more interested in becoming a media conglomerate than playing TTRPGs.

I literally do not know how Brennan will have the time to run all these games.

If Matt Mercer is stepping back I think that means other cast shakeups are coming to. I don't believe Matt will just disappear and adding 1 more person at the table feels like too many people.

Variety · Critical Role Adds Brennan Lee Mulligan as Campaign 4 Game MasterBy Jennifer Maas

But, oh man, did that announcement make it clear that Critical Role and Darrington Press are going after the TTRPG crown (which makes it likely IMO that C4 will use Daggerheart). I don't think they have the economies of scale and infrastructure to actually dislodge WotC and D&D (but I can see them taking the #2 slot from Paizo), but it will be an interesting year nonetheless.

It's also interesting that they haven't publicly committed to which game system their going to use in C4. They even ambiguously referred to BLM's position as both DM and GM. Will it be Daggerheart or will it be 5e D&D? I care less about C4 not being set in Exandria - I feel it's kind of played out if I'm going to be honest.

I watched the Critical Role announcement from their live show at GenCon. As much as I like Brennan Lee Mulligan, I have mixed feelings that he's taking over the DM/GM chair from Matthew Mercer for Campaign 4, even if Mercer is going to be a player. I hope everyone else is still a player - that was left ambiguous - as, with the exception of Robbie Daymond, their long term guests haven't held my attention for long (something that happened frequently in EXU and C3).

I don't watch Critical Role anymore, but when I was fresh out of college I was working night shifts and I would put the stream on audio only mode, drop my phone is an empty cup as a speaker, and that would be my entertainment while I worked.
