‘Defining #dingoes as a distinct species or subspecies would allow governments to differentiate them from domestic #dogs in laws, policies and conservation programs, and align western science with First Nations knowledge holders who have long distinguished between dingoes and dogs’. theconversation.com/dingoes-ar

Defend the Wild is proud to have consulted with the Government around the use of non-lethal measures to protect #Dingoes and #livestock. We thank the Victorian Government for making this important decision and look forward to working alongside them to protect dingoes on all public lands across Victoria in the future.

The #WotjobalukPeople have fought especially hard to protect the #Dingoes in this region and their incredible work has paid off. We also extend our appreciation to all those who have been working so hard to protect Dingoes in the area. What an incredible win our collective efforts have achieved.

I dunno about that... there's still debate on whether dingoes are dogs, but I would submit that there is enough variety among dogs that dingoes are not sufficiently different that they should be considered not dogs.

Certainly I wouldn't simply make a statement that they are not dogs, without qualification.

I’ve been to K’gari (Fraser Island) once, on an organised day trip from Noosa. We saw the beaches, the forest & the beautiful perched lake. We saw dingoes from a distance, & some in our party inadvertently fed the local kookaburras in spite of the warnings. It was a lovely day. I appreciate that many campers do the right thing, but if there are too many, or if too many break the rules in their attempts to get pics for their Insta, then camping should be banned. #dingoes #Kgari #FraserIsland

From my colleagues down the corridor at UNSW who have been collecting and analysing ear clips of dingoes and wild dogs

"Research suggests that more than half of Australia’s dingoes are genetically pure, not hybrids"

TL;DR they use a better DNA testing method, and find that Australia has four groups of pure dingos that have differences in DNA. Plus a group of dingo/dog mixed DNA. Now to find out if the differences in DNA lead to physical differences.
