Drosera regia ‘Big Easy’
A cultivar of the largest sundew in the world, a South African giant only found in a handful of tiny populations. Leaves average over a foot but can sometimes exceed 3 feet long (meaning this sticky rosette can be 6 feet across on rare occasions), and it is the most basal species in the genus, meaning it split from all the other sundews very early and may possibly prove to actually be more related to their cousins the Venus flytrap and waterwheel plant than other sundews.

Flowers on Drosera petiolaris. The type species of the Petiolaris complex of sundews from northern Australia, these plants are finicky in cultivation because they’re adapted to harsh conditions in the wild. Boiling got pretty much year round, bone dry for half of it and swamped the other, in very sandy grainy soils. They’re also known as the woolly sundews as many have either year-round or only during dormancy leaves or buds that are covered in dense fuzzy hairs.

Drosera is real happy here!

Stringy green long leaves growing up in the bright sunlight, edges silvery and red with sticky dew. Behind is the inside corner of the fence with the pale blue sky above.

One of the leaves of my Drosera capensis, a carnivorous plant that has helped control the gnat population in my indoor garden. Saw it catching the sun and figured it deserved a photo!

A thin, tongue-shaped green leave extends out and curls downward slightly, bristling with very long red tendrils that are tipped with clear droplets of fluid. These droplets are glimmering in reflected sunlight.

Took a quick snap of the sundews backlit by the low early light as I was rushing out the door this morning. Turned out ok.

Bifurcating thin leaves of lots of sundew plants catching the light like lots of fairy lights. Each leaf covered in hundreds of hairs holding a sticky dew drop.
Some dried seed heads of shorter rosette sundews are caught in amongst the sticky leaves.
The sundews are growing out of moss just visible at the bottom of the picture.

A plant that's appearing in large numbers (hundreds) in places on our property where I've never seen them before are Sundew (Drosera sp.), a carnivorous plant.

I suspect that the above average winter rainfall, and the ensuing boggy ground, has encouraged their appearance.

They’ll soon produce a small, pink flower.

Pour info, dans la tourbière à une centaine de mètres de l'allée couverte, les plants de #drosera rotundifolia, linaigrette et orchis tâcheté sont magnifiques.

Diptyque vertical sur fond noir de deux photos de l'allée couverte du Mougau Bihan prise depuis l'extrémité nord-ouest, la première plutôt du côté gauche et la seconde plutôt du côté côté droit. Sur la première photo, l'environnement du mégalithe est relativement dégagé et l'on devine en arrière plan, la crête des Monts d'Arrée, sous un ciel partiellement nuageux, alors que sur la seconde photo, l'arrière-plan du mégalithe est occupé par des arbres proches.

diptyque sur fond noir de l'intérieur de l'allée couverte. sur la première photo en format vertical, on voit une ouverture à l'extrémité du monument constitué par des dalles de granite relativement plates tant sur les côtés que pour le plafond. Sur la seconde photo en format horizontal prise vers l'autre extrémité fermée par une dalle de séparation avec une cellule carrée, on devine très difficilement sur la première dalle à droite, une sculpture en bas relief.

It feels like everyone who grows these has had a late start this season, but it's finally that tuberous #drosera time of year again.

A couple of views of my D. tubaestylis, the first of my tuberous to get going. Two different plants from the same pot. One smaller specimen, the other flowering size.

Keeping up the insectivorous content- another old photo, from 2020, close up of a couple of types of sundew plant we keep in our porch. The plants grow in sphagnum moss and rainwater. the moss grows very well, so the plants have to keep reaching up to stay in the light
