Anyone have any tips for a newbie attending #why2025 ?

I like electronics, physics, retro tech, maths, rope and things that are intentionally on fire. Not necessarily all together/in that order. If you're running/involved in/attending/bringing a cool thing that sounds like it might be for me, please let me know.

If you were in or around #emfcamp in 2022 or 2024, we may have met there, feel free to say hello

Been working on something for #EMFCamp

Edit: it now installs fine from the app-store: apps.badge.emfcamp.org/apps/12

Update, Kliment on IRC correctly pointed out that the DECT module needs 1.8v signalling, so I've added level shifting, also at the suggestion of Kliment I was able to fit a small I2C eeprom that'll hold the client application to control the module, I also found a 3mm by 3mm piezo buzzer, the CMT-322-65 and just squeezed in a corner connected to the Tildagon, with a bit of luck I should be able to allow custom ringtones with RTTL, I have a good curated list of memes songs in that format :blobfoxlaugh:

It's official… we're back! I know it feels like ages away, but if you're brewing a crazy idea for an installation/artwork in your head and you think you might need any support from the EMF Installations team, then the time to start talking to us is now!

Email: installations@emfcamp.org

In honour of the official announcement, I've cleared the inbox ready to start monitoring it again…

emfcamp.orgPost by Electromagnetic Field, @emf@emfcamp.orgWe are finally ready to announce that EMF 2026 will happen on July 16-19, 2026, at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, Herefordshire. Expect more updates soon as we start spinning up the organisation again.

So preparations for #emfcamp

My fursuit has a rotary telephone inside, and I'd be stupid if I didn't get it working on DECT, I already have a Pi Zero in there with a GSM module, but finding something similar for DECT is proving a little more allusive

The best I could find is this module codico.com/en/homea-dhx913-ext

Which actually has a RPi GPIO header, the issues are 1. expensive and 2. is DECT ULE even gonna be compatible?

If anyone can weigh in who knows the setup at EMF or perhaps knows of another approach that can be used I'd be very grateful

Does anyone have any tips for non-destructively dismantling old incandescent lamps (E27 base) with the intent to modify/reassemble them?

The process is presumably "desolder the pip on the base, then loosen the cement/epoxy/whatever that attaches the base to the glass envelope and separate"

But does anyone have any details of how to do that last bit?

I'll tag some communities that might know, feel free to add more?
