Finished #reading The Frozen River, #historicalFiction set in Maine and inspired by Martha Ballard journals (1735 – 1812). It is a story of a literate,#feminist midwife with a principled, ethical husband and 1/2 dozen mainly adult children. The interesting cast of characters, the greed and corruption of the #patriarchy, land theft, and plight of #women are the bones of this compelling story. It confirms the old adage that #racism, #sexism and misogyny often come in the same package.

Am happy to toot about a new collection of articles on #feminist, #queer, and #trans* #narrative studies, just out in the Palgrave Handbooks series!

My own piece meshes #EnactiveCognition with queer theory, and it brings theory to practice in an enactive reading of Palimpsest by @Catvalente. I look at the way Valente’s novel offers its readers an experience of gender fluidity in both thematic and formal terms: firstly, by queering the sexual relations depicted in the narrative, and secondly, by turning the affordances of sexual desire into environmental #affordances—that is, by suggesting that our cognitive entanglement with narrative environments can itself be seen in erotic terms.

(The price of the book is shameful, though... 🫣😨😤)

"That’s the lineage of feminism I belong to, one that’s rooted in collective care, radical imagination, and the refusal to be small. It’s about making space, taking space, and dreaming far beyond the limits of what we’ve been told is possible."

We were having an interesting and highly-neurospicy conversation with lovely wife.

She used the word burgeoning in passing, to which we advised we can't unassociate that word from icky transphobe Germaine Greer.

Wife then described her as a fauxminist 🤣

She hadn't heard this term used before: the portmanteau just flowed naturally from her mind.

Honestly love the delightful and insightful stuff she says 🥰

And yes: we immediately asked permission to post this here 🤭

She even recommended hashtagging it with #ShitMyWifeSays 😌

RationalWikiGermaine GreerGermaine Greer (/ɡrɪər/) (29 January 1939–) is an accomplished Australian radical feminist author, journalist, scholar, and self-described pedophile. She wrote the important feminist tome The Female Eunuch, which decried the 1970s ideal of a "stable," suburban nuclear family as repressive of women, and dedicated her life to "women's liberation". Since then, however, Greer has mostly devolved into an attention-seeking troll through her increasingly contrarian and asinine hot takes.
We can not birth a new world within the structures of the current systems.

This vulva collage is one of the first I made, if not the first actually. I’m not looking for answers within the organised religions, but I am looking for ways to move softly and spiritually through the world. Maybe this was a portrait of Mary, maybe she was another holy figure in a christian artwork, but now she situated in this collage representing more than a human being. She is the spiritual deep within.
