Today's last #grandma recording I didn't finish (46 minutes, stopped after 11). I had transcribed another one before and this big recording is the most emotional one I have from her. She told me about a grave injustice, which she had never told anyone before. She cried and then apologized for crying. I'm so glad that I managed to push record in the middle of this.

Genealogy Roundup, August 27 – Megan Smolenyak

Ellis Island – I think most don’t realize that there’s a little bridge to Ellis Island, so it’s possible to drive there. I got to do this once and thought it was incredibly cool! #genealogy I gave the police access to my DNA—and maybe some of yours – I believe I’m in the minority, but I find this attitude a little flippant.

It won't get any better today, so:

- managed to transcribe at least one chunk of #grandma recordings
- rediscovered the postcard wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Kaiserp , while cleaning my closet. Somewhere on it, there's probably my great-grandfather. It was rather expensive for a postcard, so it would have been a pity, if it would have been lost for good
- disassembled a water tap, put some grease in it and put it back together. Guess what: still seems to work!!!

Caused by disturbing events on #WikiTree, I didn't manage to transcribe a #grandma recording last week, so in need of catching up this week. Today's contained the story of my dad visiting grandma in her room and asking her to clean the baby (guess who?) because he simply couldn't (probably, because of the smell, oopsie). Another story mentioned the closet which grandma's grandma Marie #Schindler had received for her wedding, see

Elly #Mommer I only knew as the side note "That's Mr(s) Mommer from #Rostock" when #grandma described one of the photographs in her mother's album. After creating her profile some weeks ago I reached out to a local history group in Rostock. From there I instantly received pages of a book that had a short biography of her. With that, the story of the friendly woman on the photograph turned a lot darker:
